Trafficked domestic workers hold retreat in DC
Four Damayan trafficking survivor-leaders and two organizers joined delegations from Adhikaar and Casa de Maryland Women's Committee, as well as a representative from the Pilipino Workers' Center-Southern California, for a three-day retreat of the Beyond Survival Campaign in DC.
The Beyond Survival Campaign is a new initiative of the National Domestic Workers Alliance to lift up the voices of trafficked domestic workers and to build their leadership on the national level.
The retreat included a meeting with the Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez, as well as a meeting with Department of Labor officials from the Wage and Hour Division; sharing on campaign strategies with the National Guestworker Alliance; a full-day training on trauma, resilience and healing; as well as in-depth campaign planning for Beyond Survival. Damayan is honored to be part of this campaign with other courageous survivors of human and labor trafficking.
