Damayan members troop to the town hall about Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
Damayan members joined the larger Filipino community in Kalayaan Hall, Philippine Center, for a Town Hall on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) organized by the Philippine Consulate, Filipino American Legal Defense Fund (FALDEF), and the Fil-Am Press Club of NY.
Damayan member Rosalina Cionelo shared about her struggles as a domestic worker, working in the shadows while sending money home for many years to support her family and build a home she could eventually go home to. Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda wiped out her life's work, leaving her to start from scratch at over 60 years old.
As stated at the Town Hall, the movement for TPS represents one of the largest and most broad coalition efforts in the Filipino American community in recent history, with organizations across sectors and cities joining the push for TPS.
