Damayan Members Graduate from the Professional Training for Nannies

Damayan, in collaboration with the Bronx Community College, celebrated the culmination of its joint pilot project, Professional Training of Nannies, with a graduation and party last May in the 1199SEIU building in New York City. 

Held in the Bronx Community College, twenty-four Damayan members successfully completed the nine-week training which aimed to empower those who care for young children with knowledge and skills so they could perform their responsibilities more effectively.

Bonnie Mallonga, CEO of 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation, spoke about how the project was conceived and shared about other upcoming opportunities for the graduates. Damayan Executive Director Linda Oalican and Instructor Aisha Dean also shared inspirational messages. Graduates Arlene Janer and Haydee Galido gave heartwarming speeches that thanked the organizers and graduates. The graduation was quickly followed by a Mother's Day Celebration to give thanks to the mothers and women who support their families back in the Philippines.
