Damayan Participates in Hate Free Zone's Know Your Rights, Reality and Responsibility Training

DAMAYAN MIGRANTS | May 14, 2018

Hate Free Zone held a Know Your Rights, Reality, and Responsibility Training on Immigration and Policing last May in Jackson Heights, Queens.

The training was geared towards frontline communities (undocumented, people of color, workers, women, youth, LGBTQ, etc). to learn about their rights and how we can use our collective power to fight back. The training had over 70 participants, including representatives from 6 workplaces and faith institutions, who joined for a participatory art project on defining safety, and an interactive workshop, simultaneously interpreted in 4 languages, that focused on encounters with ICE and the police at home, and with ICE raids in the workplace.

With increasing ICE raids in workplaces, outside of courthouses and neighborhoods, and new enforcement regulations to deport and depopulate immigrant communities, the Hate Free Zone Coalition recognizes the necessity to continue to build upon community defense work.
