Damayan WeRise Nanny Training, Day 4 Summary
“[The workshop] helped us understand what is and is not sexual harassment, it gives us clear understanding that such misconduct cannot be tolerated in the workplace. [The workshop] gives us the benefit to enhance employee wellbeing and improve team dynamics,”
Ate Dora, Damayan Member
Damayan domestic workers and members sharpened their nanny safety skills in the Damayan WeRise Nanny Training, Day 4.
WeRise Module 7: Preventing Sexual Harassment. WeRise trainer Kenya Williams facilitated sensitive and careful discussion about sexual harassment, so nannies can feel and keep others safe in their workplace, and know what to do if they are not. Through guidance on NYC laws and strategies for prevention, the presentation empowered nannies to care and protect themselves, so they can work with dignity.
WeRise Module 8: Home as a Workplace. WeRise trainer Doris Tapia shared to participants how to identify and address different hazards and prioritize preparedness for one’s home: from handling chemicals to facing disease/COVID 19. These skills are important for nannies to be well-rounded and take better care of themselves and their employers’ children.
The Damayan WeRise Nanny Training, Day 4 addressed topics not normally talked about in domestic work. By talking about sexual harassment and workplace welfare, participants are not only more skilled professional nannies, but are nannies that prioritize safety. Overall safety can also be achieved through a strong community—please join us for our next community event at our Monthly Member’s Meeting on Saturday, March 9, 2024, 11am at 58-14 Roosevelt Ave 2nd floor, Queens, NY 11377. It’s between St Sebastian Church and the martial arts. Take stairs and its first door is on your right.
