Damayan February Legal Clinic Summary
On Saturday, February 17, at The People’s Forum, 15 workers took empowering steps towards justice at our Damayan Legal Clinic.
Before legal consultations, those both familiar and new to our organization learned about Damayan’s mission, our case process, and our case agreements from our Case Manager and Organizer, Lydia. Our new members were amazed to learn that our efforts go beyond providing legal services—but also to organize Filipino migrant workers and be part of a community.
After the orientation, 10 Filipino migrant workers received free consultations about their potential immigration and/or labor case with pro-bono and low-bono attorneys from TakeRoot Justice and Eisner Dictor & Lamadrid, P.C. After the Legal Clinic, the Damayan case management team will support members who are ready to take the next steps in their case, to gain victory.
Damayan believes that all individuals, regardless of wage, immigration status, or identity, deserve justice and dignity. Damayan will not tire of empowering workers to pursue justice.
Save the date for Damayan’s next legal clinic on April 20th. Power to all workers and migrants!
