Damayan Organizer Riya Ortiz Speaks at the "After Marriage" Conference

Damayan Community Organizer Riya Ortiz participated in After Marriage: The Future of LGBTQ Politics and Scholarship Conference early this October at John Jay College. She joined a panel of activists and academics for the roundtable discussion “Centering Intersectional Politics: Queer Migration Activism,” in which she spoke on the intersectionality between im/migrant rights struggles and LGBTQ struggles. Riya drew on her experience as a queer Filipino immigrant and her work with Damayan in organizing of queer Filipino migrant workers, to discuss the potential challenges in addressing trafficking, im/migration, and other queer migration issues.
