Ray of Hope Walk to End Violence Against Women

Damayan Workers Cooperative board member and worker advocate, Edith Mendoza, shared her experience as a survivor of labor trafficking while speaking at the 2017 Ray of Hope Walk to End Violence against Women (ROHW) on Oct. 28th. The Ray of Hope Walk  is an annual event that brings together hundreds of people and sponsors to educate and raise awareness about the global epidemic of violence against women. The event aims to highlight the different forms of violence against women and celebrate the resilience of survivors.

Edith is the leader of the  Damayan’s Justice for Edith and Sherile campaign and along with her fellow Damayan member Sheirle Pahagas, is currently suing her former employer, German diplomat, Pit Koehler, for stolen wages. As a survivor of labor trafficking, Edith Mendoza spoke at the event saying, “Damayan and my experience impacted me to get involved with this event because, the Ray of Hope Walk stands for women dignity, justice and the importance of collective power.”
