Damayan health fair provides much-needed health services to 80 low-wage Filipino workers
Eighty low-wage workers attended Damayan's health fair with on-site mammograms, doctor consultations, and blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar readings.
After the health fair, there was a discussion of the current immigration landscape. A panel of speakers included Heather Benno, an attorney from Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER) - DC who discussed the history of immigration reform and the current moment; Hong-Mei Pang from Revolutionizing Asian American Immigrant Stories on the East Coast (RAISE) who discussed undocumented youth organizing; and Leah Obias from Damayan who gave an international context and discussed Obama's "Pacific Pivot" and the increased US militarization in the Philippines.
