Our Achievements Throughout the Years Part 2 - Damayan's 20th Anniversary
Paving the way for anti-trafficking work, Damayan is proud of its milestones:
In 2010, Damayan launched the Baklas (“break free” or “dismantle”) Campaign to support workers who are breaking free from modern-day slavery, and to dismantle the systemic problems that cause trafficking
In 2013, Damayan became an anchor organization for the National Domestic Workers Alliance Beyond Survival Campaign
In 2015, awarded the prestigious Paul and Sheila Wellstone Award at the national conference of Freedom Network USA, for its unique contribution to the anti-trafficking field in the United States
In 2019, Baklas National was launched, which was a Nationwide campaign to break free From labor trafficking and modern day slavery
For two decades, we have been guided by our mission to help trafficking survivors in our community and help empower them to become social justice leaders.
In 2017, the Philippine Consulate General of New York signed the landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Damayan to combat the labor trafficking and modern-day slavery of Filipino nationals in New York.
This marks one of Damayan’s many milestones in the field of anti-trafficking work in a span of two decades.
Many of our community members are stolen wage victims in the hands of their employers. For 2 decades, Damayan has been helping our fellow migrant workers fight through Know Your Labor/Immigration Rights trainings, Workers Academy, and referral to pro bono or low bono attorneys for those who want to file stolen wage cases against their employers. We help organize the survivors to become social justice leaders who help fellow workers stand up and fight for their rights.
20 years of organizing, 20 years of impact!
Help us continue our work.
