Meet Tagsibol 2015 Honoree Atty. Melissa Chua

Dear Damayan Friends and Allies,

As an organization of im/migrant women workers, it is essential to have attorney allies who have both the sensitivity and expertise to represent members with multiple, often intersecting legal issues. When attorneys become central partners in larger campaigns and organizing drives, their allyship becomes meaningful not just to our members, but to the larger movement as well.

For this reason, Damayan has been fortunate to have the partnership of Melissa Chua, Supervising Attorney of the Immigrant Protection Unit, New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG). Melissa has supported our immigration rights organizing by providing Know Your Rights trainings and legal clinics, and representing members in gender-based violence cases since 2009. She played a central role in local organizing for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Filipinos following Typhoon Haiyan in 2013. And she has been an invaluable resource for issues related to deportation, domestic violence, and the complexities of the immigration system as whole.

We invite you to join us as we honor the enduring allyship of Melissa Chua at our annual benefit event on Friday, May 8, 2015.

Spend your evening with fierce Filipino women domestic workers and be part of our journey as we build power through grassroots organizing and coalition building to protect and fight for our communities.

Purchase tickets or sponsor the event at Damayan's Eventbrite page!

See you on May 8!

Sincerely,

Linda Oalican
